A GUIDE FOR CUSTOMERS WITH DISABILITIES

The White Hart Pub - First stop on our Jack the Ripper Tour.

ACCESSIBLE TO ALL

It is extremely important to us that our Jack the Ripper Walking Tour should be accessible to all and that no-one should be excluded from being able to enjoy our walk. To that end every aspect of the tour, that is under our control, is planned out to make it suitable for those with disabilities.

WHEELCHAIR USERS

We take many wheelchair users on the tour and outline here the problems that you might encounter.

Aldgate East Underground Station, where our tour begins, does not have lifts or wheelchair access, but there is a bus stop across the road and the majority of modern busses do have wheelchair access. To plan your journey by bus please visit our Plan Your Journey page.

The tour itself is relatively wheelchair friendly, and the route has been planned out to ensure that there are ramps at most of the points where we have to cross roads.

It should be pointed out that the first thoroughfare that we go in to, Gunthorpe Street, is a cobblestoned street and so it can be a little bumpy for wheelchair users. But it is passable.

The only other problem we encounter is that sometimes mini cabs park on the pavement along Brick Lane, which can create an obstruction. However, our guides are able to assist in manoeuvring round such obstructions and it hasn't proved too much of a problem to wheelchair users on past tours.

We would suggest that you give us a call on 020 8530-8443 in advance of the tour so that we can do all we can to ensure that you enjoy a positive and enjoyable experience with us.

HEARING IMPAIRED CLIENTS

Although we do not have the resources to maintain permanent interpreters, we are happy for you to bring your own with you, and our guides will work with them to ensure you have an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

We do, however, have a set of visual display cards, with the tour stops and descriptions printed onto them along with the photographs.

If you would like us to provide you with a set of these visual aids please call us in advance on 020 8530-8443 and we will arrange for your guide to have a set ready for you at the start of your Jack the Ripper Tour.

VISUALLY IMPAIRED CLIENTS

By its very nature the Jack the Ripper Tour explores the older and darker alleyways of the East End, which might prove difficult for those with conditions such as RP.

However, if you let us know in advance by calling us on 020 8530-8443 then we will ensure that your guide offers as much assistance as you may require.

As far as the walk description goes, the tour is very much a story telling experience, so the narrative will conjure up strong mental images of what the area was like at the time of the murders and will describe in detail the events of the Jack the Ripper case. So in many ways it is an ideal activity for the visually impaired.

PLEASE HELP US TO MAKE OUR TOURS ACCESSIBLE

As mentioned earlier, we want our tour to be accessible to all so please feel free to call us on 020 8530-8443 to discuss your exact requirements.

Also, if you have been on the Jack the Ripper Tour with us and think there are parts of it that could be improved to make them more accessible please contact us with any suggestions you might have. We're always delighted to receive and act upon customer feedback.
