HAUNTED LONDON IS BEST EXPLORED ON FOOT

Gridlock in a London Traffic Jam.

A GHOST WALK IS MILES BETTER

There's no comparison between exploring haunted London on a walk and looking at it through the windows of a coach or bus. On a Ghost Walk you're actually there on the streets, soaking in the atmosphere of the City's oldest and most haunted places and experiencing their ambience first hand.

LEAVE FOOTPRINTS ON THE STREETS NOT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Then, of course, there's the environmental aspect of a walking tour versus a coach or bus tour. Coaches and buses pollute, walking tours don't.

Stand alongside a sightseeing coach, or one of the double-decker London tour buses, and within moments you'll smell the fumes that these gas guzzling modes of transport belch out.

By contrast, the only emissions from a walking tour are the dulcet tones of your guide!

DON'T BE A SPECTATOR BE A PARTICIPANT

The whole point of a London ghost tour is to experience the places where ghosts have been seen. The only way to do this is to actually visit them.

On a London Ghost Walk you can squeeze into the narrow, atmospheric old alleyways, hidden passageways and tucked away courtyards that busses and coaches simply cannot get into.

On a bus or coach tour you will be sweltering behind glass, craning your neck to see whatever it is that your guide is telling you about. And, since you don't have the opportunity to get off the coach or bus, you have no opportunity to sample or experience the atmosphere of the places your guide is telling you about.

It's a bit like looking at a delicious cream cake or mouth-watering dish through a shop window without actually being given the opportunity to enter the shop and take a closer look or even buy it. Well perhaps not exactly the same but you get the drift!

YOU'LL BE RIGHT THERE WITH YOUR GUIDE

Another problem with coach or bus tours is that you are separated from your guide. On a coach, your guide will be sat at the front, facing forward, not even able to make eye contact with you. She, or he, will be nothing more than a disembodied voice crackling over the coaches PA system.

The essence of a good ghost tour is the guides ability to tell a story, and to enjoy a storyteller's performance you have to see it. A good storyteller acts out the story for his audience, and so it is imperative that you can see him do it, as opposed to just listen to it over an amplifier.

On a Ghost Walk your guide is standing in front of you, he will be able to use tiny little mannerisms, concerned glances over your shoulder, as well as altering the tone of his voice to really tell the ghost story, as opposed to just reciting it over a PA system.

BEING PICKED UP AT YOUR HOTEL SOUNDS GREAT BUT .....

It sounds great that a coach or bus will pick you up at your hotel and take you on a tour of haunted London. But there's a huge downside to this. The people who have booked onto a bus tour will probably be staying at lots of different hotels spread all across London.

Do the maths. If the coach just has to pick up from 6 hotels and it takes even just 5 minutes to get between each hotel, that's 30 minutes of, if you'll pardon the pun, dead time during which you will just be ferried between different hotels.

If it then takes four minutes for the passengers to board at those six hotels that's another 24 minutes of wasted time. In other words almost an hour has gone by and you've seen nothing and been nowhere associated with haunted London.

THEN THERE ARE THE TRAFFIC JAMS

London is notoriously bad for traffic jams and it's even worse in the early evening. Rush hour, when most coach and bus companies are picking their passengers up from their hotels, can be an absolute gridlock. The first few hours of your evening may well just see you sitting in endless traffic jams, sweltering behind glass, as your guide runs out of things to say. Will you honestly be glad you were picked up at your hotel if that happens?

WHY TAKE THE RISK?

To get from a West End hotel to the starting points of either of our London Ghost Walks takes, at most, twenty five minutes by tube.

You can meet up with your guide, have a chat, and then enjoy a relaxed few hours, discovering the places where ghosts have been seen. On our Friday night Hidden Horrors of Haunted London Tour you can even arrive early, enjoy a nice meal or a drink at the Lord Raglan Pub, where the tour begins, and then enjoy a pleasant few hours actually experiencing the haunted city.

In short, you will experience the true thrill of seeing haunted London first hand, up close and personal, not just being told about it from behind a coach window. There's no doubt about it .. Walking is miles better. Better for the environment and better for you.
